A Healthy Dose of Humour
Chris Gilham & Martyn Davies
Mike McClean
A big thank you to everyone that joined us for another Healthy Dose of Humour at Rochford Hundred Rugby Club last Wednesday 28th May .
These Stand-Up Comedy events are all about making Men’s Mental Health more visible, and to create awareness of the amount of support available.
The night was in collaboration with Health Watch Essex, & Mid & South Essex NHS
It was great to see Andy’s Man Club & Rochford Care System join us to help promote Men’s Mental Health.
Before the comedy began, we listened to live experience speakers. First up was Lost Sock Productions, & Sober IS Fun founder Martyn Davies.
Martyn Davies shared his lived experience of alcohol, cocaine & gambling addictions, and how he was just 17 years old when he landed deep in a very heavy party lifestyle, ‘ The Jilted Generation.
Martyn openly shared how he started out partying which was fun, and using alcohol and drugs socially, but ended up spiraling into a 27 year addiction.
Joining Martyn on the evening was guest Chris Gilham, founder of Gambling Harm Uk, and trustee of the Guiding Light Men’s Mental Health charity.
Chris also openly shared about his own alcohol and gambling harm, which spiraled leaving him penniless & suicidal. Chris also shared about his own ADHD journey, which Martyn Davies also shared about starting.
Both of these speakers were truly inspirational .
Following the speaker section we had a Q & A which was extremely successful, which included questions from GP’s asking how they could better understand & support addiction.
After the interval we had two great performances from Top Stand-Up Comedians Gerry K & Mike McClean.
